The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Vaitupu is a significant religious and historical landmark in Wallis, known for both its unique construction story and spiritual role. Originally built in the village of Vailala and transported to Vaitupu in October 1848, the current stone church was constructed between 1865 and 1866 under the direct supervision of Monsignor Bataillon, who personally oversaw and carried out the work. Serving as an active place of worship and a historical monument, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul also houses the burial of Father Rondel, former parish priest of Hihifo.
