Description

The Chapel of St Bernadette in Lausikula is an impressive religious landmark on the west coast of Wallis, known for its scale, ornate decoration and dramatic setting. Blessed in September 2014, the chapel was built to replace a smaller oratory destroyed by Cyclone Evan in 2012, and what stands today is a striking and lavish structure that many locals compare to the grandeur of Poï Basilica in Futuna. Don't miss the statue of St Bernadette positioned near a natural cave carved into the cliff.

Highlights

  • Large and richly decorated chapel rebuilt after Cyclone Evan
  • Natural cave and statue of St Bernadette adding spiritual atmosphere
  • One of the most visually impressive chapels on Wallis
